Frequently Asked Questions about Lightning Trips to Mexico
Who can go on a trip? There are 4 easy requirements to go on a Casas-led Lightning Trip. You can go if:
· You speak English · You love Jesus · Have been a member of a Bible Fellowship for at least six months · Your Bible Fellowship has been invited to go on a trip
How much does it cost to go on a Lightning Trip?
· The average Lightning Trip costs $10 per person. (Costs vary per trip.) back to top
What are the steps involved in going?
· Be an active member of your Adult Bible Fellowship · Complete the registration and background release forms and give them to your ABF's GO Coordinator · Attend a free "Reducing the Risk" child-abuse awareness course online or at Casas
· Casas' standard in any part of the world is to rely on two key sources of information:
1). Official warnings( i.e. from the State Department (updated every 6 months unless circumstances warrant them updating it sooner)) and 2.) warnings from our Global Workers who actually live in the location (Casas Global Worker Roberto M)
· As of March 2010, based on these two sources of information, we believe that there is no security reason to refrain from ABF Lightning Trips to Nogales, Imuris, or Rocky Point.
· On the other hand there is no guarantee of safety in Tucson or anywhere. We follow God where he leads us.
What if I don’t know Spanish or am unfamiliar with the culture?
· That’s okay!! Translators are abundant on every trip, and we'll train you in non-verbal ways you can communicate effectively. · We'll provide you with information about the culture.
What if I’m not super-skilled at sharing God's love?
· Neither are we!! But we each have special gifts that God can and will use on a short-term trip. Casas-led short-term trips are all about relationships – using our own personal life stories and experiences to share God’s love and form friendships with local people. · Our trips are NOT about forcing people to “convert”; rather we focus on serving and sharing the love of Jesus in a non-threatening, relational way.
