ARIETA'S HOUSE CHURCH

Little Arieta’s extended family in Kosovo hugged and kissed our Casas members, but there was defeat on everyone’s face – they had lost everything in the war. So Casas member Marilyn decided to share the story of Jesus. Usually people aren’t ready to hear so much so soon, but their eyes locked on her. When she asked, “Do you want to follow Jesus?,” they blurted out, “We want eternal life!” Arieta and her family jumped to their feet and prayed to declare their faith in Jesus.

Then Arieta’s married sister and her husband raced to the next village, shared with his siblings and mom, and they all decided to become Christ-followers. And when our team got to Arieta’s sister’s apartment, they found that her husband had invited all the other families in the complex. Casas people shared - and the families cried out, “We’ve always been looking for God, but we didn’t know where to find Him.” Half the households in the complex decided to follow Jesus!

Now Arieta’s family and all these others are part of a network of house churches worshiping God in their own language and culture!

  ICE AND JONES

Right after Chinese college student Ice (his English nickname) became a Jesus-follower, he invited our first Casas team to share the gospel with 13 fellow students in an apartment. In the middle of sharing their faith, one student, Jones, interrupted, shot up his hand, and proclaimed, “I believe.”

At Casas we prayed for Ice and Jones as they faced the pressure and tangible cost of following Christ in China. When our next team went, they discovered that not only was this pair still following Jesus, Ice was already pastoring a house church. This year Casas sent three teams to China. They sought out Ice and Jones and discovered that they were both pastoring house churches! They even invited our team to a secret underground baptism service.

Thank you! You made this story happen when you gave to Casas Global Outreach! These two house churches were only two of 119 daughter churches Casas gave birth to last year! Each came bouncing into this world with shouts of joy. Birthplaces range from China, Thailand, and the Mediterranean, to Kosovo, Mexico, Peru, Sudan, and beyond. All our babies are doing fine. Proud parents:  The people of Casas who give and sow, our missionaries who water, God who gives the increase!

THE ONLY ONE IN MY VILLAGE

Four regular Casas people went to Thailand right after the Tsunami to set up mobile medical clinics with our Casas missionaries Doug and Cheryl Derbyshire in tiny isolated villages where many Muslim residents had died.

The very first patient, who brought her neighbor with her, dropped her jaw and froze and stared at the crosses on team members’ shirts. She said, “Do you know that I am the only follower of Jesus in this village? Do you know that for 10 years I have never had a church or even one other person to pray with or worship God with. I’ve been praying for 10 years that God would send me someone. Now I know that you are the answer to my prayers.”

Then the team started talking to her neighbor. Soon she said, “I want to follow Jesus, too.” Then a brand new pastor said, “I will help these ladies start a church here.” Now this woman, her neighbor, and their village can worship in God in their own language and culture.

God is using Casas people to bring living water to some of the most spiritually thirsty peoples on earth!
