WORLDWIDE PERSPECTIVES
Syllabus 2005
Catalina Foothills Church
Tucson, Arizona
COURSE OBJECTIVE: To give you a clearer understanding of God’s actions and intentions in the world in order to help you make informed decisions about your strategic participation with Him.
CLASS PHILOSOPHY: Effective methods of learning go beyond a dynamic lecture. Only practical use of the material will fulfill our call to "Be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving ourselves." (James 1:22) This class will contain participatory activities aimed at deepening your comprehension and developing your understanding.
Our ultimate aim is not to give you theories or information, but to encourage in you an obedient response, growing out of a heart of love and gratitude to God. We want to promote an atmosphere, not of unrelated individuals pursuing academic goals, but a fellowship of brothers and sisters in the body of Christ, linking together to support and help one another. We encourage you to meet together and pray with one another.

PROFESSOR OF RECORD: Dr. Malcolm Hartnell, Professor of Phoenix Seminary, Phoenix, Arizona, is the Professor of Record. The course is taught by visiting lecturers.
HISTORY OF THE COURSE: The Perspectives course developed by Ralph D. Winter and Steven C. Hawthorne flowed from material used in the masters program in missions at Fuller School of World Mission. Much of it came from the thinking of missiologists like Donald McGavran and Don Richardson, as well as Winter’s own research. The idea of a course for college students was started by Ralph Winter after the Urbana meetings (held every 3 years by Intervarsity Christian Fellowship in Champagne-Urbana, Ill). In 1973, there was a great upsurge in decisions by students, and Winter decided to pull together an ad hoc course to help them make informed decisions about their future.
