Casas Policy on Fundraising in Adult Classes
From time to time adult classes receive direct requests and subtle suggestions from people who want to present their work and funding needs in order to raise financial support. Casas has developed these guidelines to manage those requests and suggestions.
1. Who can be approved to speak?
The purposes of Casas adult classes are to teach the Book for life change and to foster community. Therefore the only people that directors will give permission to present their work on Sunday morning to their adult class are:
a. Active members of the adult class OR
b. Long-term or short-term missi0naries officially under Casas Global Outreach
It is not appropriate for (a) friends or relatives of class members or (b) outside persons or ministries to present their ministries and their needs to adult classes.
2. How does one get approval?
When adult class class Director gets a request from an active member of the adult class or from a Global Worker officially under Casas Global Outreach, they will direct the requestor to go through the following simple approval process. This applies whether the requestor is a class member, teacher, director, Global Worker, or anyone else.
a. The requestor must get permission from the GO Past0r, who may be familiar with the organization and/or requestor: If the requestor is already on the current approved list from the GO Past0r, they will proceed to speak with the Casas minlster overseeing that adult class.
b. Then the requestor must get permission from the minlster overseeing that adult class because:
i. The minlster knows the life stage/condition of the class.
ii. The minlster can regulate the flow of presenters so that classes aren’t overwhelmed.
iii. If the request needs to be refused, the minlster can take that burden off the Director, who may be getting from pressure from a class member.
c. The requestor must get permission from the applicable Division Director (if there is one).
d. Then the requestor must get permission from the adult class Director.
3. What will presenters say?
The Presenter’s focus will be to bless the class by giving vision about what Father is doing or is going to do in their work on the field. The Presenter will not mention dollar figures for financial needs, but can mention, “If you’d like to know more about our work or understand what our financial needs are, there is information on the back table.” The presenter must stay within the time limits agreed to with the Director.
4. What follow-up is expected?
If the requestor is a short-term Global Worker they should return to report and thank the class after their trip.
5. How else can one raise funds at Casas?
If a requestor asks this question, other support possibilities
a. The requestor can go to any individual they know in Casas for support.
b. If the requestor knows people in other departments than their own, they may ask those individuals to host a separate meeting to share their financial/prayer support needs. These meetings or events will not be publicized to the church; they are intended for those the requestor already knows.
6. Who can adult class class support?
An adult class can support any f@ith work or person as they desire, with the director’s approval. But outside organizations cannot present their work in the adult class.
7. What about businesses?
Secular business endeavors may not make presentations in adult classes or use adult class mailing lists to solicit investors or customers.
