In the "love your neighbor as yourself" chapter, God tells his people,
"You shall not do wrong to those of foreign origin who live in your land,
but you shall
love
them as
native-born, for
you
were foreigners
in the land of Egypt, I am the LORD your God" (Leviticus 19:33,34).
You may not have actually been a foreigner in the modern country of Egypt, but if you are like me, your ancestors came here as foreigners, and someone between them and you shared with your family the Blessing of God. And the Bible says (Ephesians 2:20) we were all foreigners to God's family and he still invited us in.

When you reach out to a refugee family you soon discover that your life is the one that is enriched. Every year almost 500 refugees resettle in Tucson. They come from Russia, Cuba, Africa, Iraq, Iran, and beyond. Some speak English. Most are Muslim. Many have lived through terrible trauma. All need to see the love of Jesus in action. New refugee families arrive in Tucson every week. They need help navigating this strange, new land. They need a friend! This is a good opportunity for Christians to welcome them, embrace them, and show them what Jesus looks like. Casas cross-cultural worker Cherie provides training in culture, communication, and understanding lslam. You can reach out in four key ways: Contact Cherie to volunteer.
